HUGO JAMES

I've been playing drums and Latin percussion since 2004. I have been privileged to study under and play alongside some fantastic musicians from the world of jazz, Latin and African music.

Though I love performing live, my chief interest is to take a deep dive into the science of  rhythm and sound. I've dedicated many years to exploring syncopation, cross-rhythms and ultimately the Clave.

With this aim, alongside live performance, studio work and creating my own music, I teach (in one to one lessons and workshops) to share and further explore the practice and theory of Clave-based music.

Afro-Cuban music and Clave based music has a long and rich history and an exciting future.
